Phoenix Photography Schools & Programs

Two of the main attractions fueling this arts scene are the photography programs at the two biggest universities in the state. Arizona State University for one, focuses on photography as an art form, and helps students develop their unique mode of expression through nationally recognized instruction and training. The University of Arizona encourages students to stretch the limits of the art form and their creativity, while grounding them with courses such as black and white darkroom, color processes, digital, and large-scale photography.

There can be no doubt, though, that besides the excellent professional training opportunities, one of the major reasons photographers like Phoenix is because there are jobs—and will be jobs for a long time to come. Government forecasts put job growth through 2013 at 7.6% for multimedia artists, 16.9% for media workers, and 15% for photographers.

Why Phoenix is a Great Place to Study Photography

Ansel Adams put the state of Arizona on the map in the photography world for his panoramas of the lunar landscape in the desert. Thousands of his fans have made the trek to the southwest to capture the same black and white beauty that Adams did. Now, a whole new generation of photographers is headed to Phoenix, one of the fastest-growing cities in the country – not to take shots of the scenery, but to become part of the new, exciting visual arts scene in Phoenix.
